Myelostat 500mg Capsule is an oral anticancer medication containing the active ingredient Hydroxyurea. It treats certain cancers, such as blood cancer or conditions where the body produces abnormal cells. This medication can be used alone or in combination with other cancer medicines or treatments such as radiotherapy.
Taking this medication every day at the same time as directed by the doctor provides the best results.
Clinical Uses
Myelostat 500mg Capsule is used to treat sickle cell anemia. It is also used to treat certain types of cancer, including chronic myeloid leukemia (CML) and head and neck cancer.
How It Works
Myelostat 500mg contains hydroxyurea, which inhibits the enzyme ribonucleotide reductase. This enzyme plays a vital role in synthesizing DNA by converting ribonucleotides into deoxyribonucleotides. This inhibition slows down or stops the rapid division of cancer cells found in leukemia or polycythemia vera.
In sickle cell anemia, hydroxyurea increases fetal hemoglobin (HbF) production in blood red cells. This type of hemoglobin prevents the formation of sickle cells and improves red blood cell flexibility. As a result, it enhances blood flow without causing blockage or pain.
